Instant Pot Sage and Garlic Whole Chicken
My Instant Pot Sage and Garlic Whole Chicken is a delicious savory way to cook a whole chicken. A tender and juicy whole chicken cooked in under an hour.
The Instant Pot makes cooking a whole chicken so easy. What doesn’t the Instant Pot make easier? I love this kitchen gadget! From start to finish this whole chicken takes just shy of one hour. About 5 minutes to prep, 36 minutes to pressure cook, and 8-10 minutes to slowly release the pressure. Slowly releasing the pressure helps keep the moisture in the chicken making for a more delicious juicy chicken.
2 REASONS I LOVE WHOLE CHICKEN:
1 They’re cost-effective! I purchase my whole chickens at Sam’s Club. They come in a 2-pack and usually are priced around $10-13 for both of them!
2 When I make a whole chicken, I’ll get enough meat for 2-3 meals PLUS homemade broth! I use the chicken stock that is in the Instant Pot right after cooking a whole chicken. I’ll use it in soup recipes like these:
And if you want to make that whole chicken go even farther, place the chicken bones back in the Instant Pot after all the meat has been removed and add veggies, apple cider vinegar, and more water and make the traditional chicken broth.
HOW TO PRESSURE COOK:
In your Instant Pot place the trivet and 3 cups of water. Rinse your whole chicken under cool water and remove all the extras from the cavity of the chicken. Place on a platter (as a working place) or a glass cutting board. Rub the avocado oil all over the whole chicken. Sprinkle the dried sage and freshly minced garlic over the entire chicken, making sure to add some to the cavity of the chicken as well.
Place the chicken on the trivet, breast side up, in the Instant Pot. Securely place the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the valve to ‘seal’. Press ‘Pressure Cook’ and manually adjust the time to 28 minutes. (see below for cook times for weight of chicken) Let cook. Once the Instant Pot beeps and the pressure cooking is done, let it sit until the pressure valve drops. About 10 minutes. Remove the lid and carefully remove the cooked chicken from the Instant Pot and place it on a cutting board or directly onto a serving tray.
