Chocolate peanut butter bites for little hands

When the kids are wanting a snack, time is of the essence!  Fill their hungry bellies with these bite-sized chocolate peanut butter banana pretzel bites in less than 10 minutes.  Better yet, bring the kids into the kitchen with you to help make them!  Giving your kids age-appropriate kitchen jobs is always a fun way to show them how to bake, get them familiar with making homemade snacks, and a little one-on-one time with your kiddos fills their love tanks too.  Have them help slice the banana, spread the peanut butter, press the pretzel into the creamy peanut butter, or dip the peanut butter banana bites into melted chocolate (warning, they will be licking their fingers because it’s so irresistible!).  Whatever task they’re assigned, this is a fun snack to put together!

Ingredients

Banana – choose a firm banana, too ripe and the sliced rounds will squish more than you want.

Peanut butter – creamy peanut butter works great.  Use any nut butter or sunflower seed butter for dietary needs.

Pretzels – pretzel twists are needed for this recipe. Use gluten-free pretzel twists if needed, such as these.

Chocolate chips – I use these Enjoy Life! dairy-free chocolate chips, but use what you have on hand.

Coconut oil – use unrefined or refined (less coconut taste with refined).  Only a small amount is needed to help thin out the melted chocolate chips.

Toppings – optional toppings are crushed peanuts and crushed pretzels.

How to make these Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Banana Bites

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil.  Stir constantly with a spatula or spoon until fully melted. Remove from heat.

Peel the bananas and slice into ½” rounds.

Add a small amount of peanut butter (about 1 tsp) to one banana round, place a pretzel twist on top of the peanut butter, place another banana round on top.  Dip in the melted chocolate then place on the parchment-covered baking sheet.

Continue until all banana slices are used.

Let set until the chocolate has hardened.  To speed up the process, place the baking sheet in the freezer for 5 minutes. Makes 10-12 bites.

How long will they last?

We love making these kid-friendly snacks the day we want to serve them.  The banana stays fresh and the taste is the best the day they are made.  They can be frozen, but my kids prefer them fresh…you can always try both ways and decide which way works best for you.

Can these Peanut Butter Banana Bites be frozen?

These chocolate-dipped banana bites can be frozen.  They make for a fun make-ahead frozen chocolate peanut butter banana bite.  After they have been dipped in chocolate, place in the freezer until frozen (about an hour).  Remove the baking sheet from the freezer, place the banana bites in a freezer-friendly container and freeze for up to 1 month.  Remove from the freezer moments before serving.  If they thaw, the banana will become soft and watery.  Best served frozen!

Dietary need swaps

Gluten-free – These little bites can be made gluten-free simply by using gluten-free twist pretzels such as these.

Dairy-free – Easily made dairy-free by using a dairy-free chocolate chip such as these.

Nut-free – If nuts aren’t your jam, swap out the peanut butter for sunflower seed butter such as this one.

They’re a healthy kid-friendly snack that can easily be made gluten-free, dairy-free, and even nut-free!
