FRESH PEARS VS. CANNED PEARS
With this recipe, you can use fresh pears or canned pears. Making it easy to make year-round!
FRESH PEARS: Peel the pears first, then chop to small cubes/pieces.
CANNED PEARS: Make sure to buy the pears that are in 100% juice and not in syrup. No need for all that extra sugar!
MAKING THIS DESSERT
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In an 8×13 glass baking dish, place the chopped pears (either freshly cut or canned) and evenly spread out in the dish. Set the baking dish aside.
In a medium mixing bowl add the gluten-free flour blend, cane sugar, and cinnamon. Mix together. Add two tablespoons of vegan butter (or coconut oil) and using two knives or a pastry cutter, cut the butter into the flour/sugar mixture. Add more butter as needed (one tablespoon at a time) until it crumbles.
Evenly spread the crumble over the pears. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes or until crumble is golden brown and the pears are bubbling.
Remove from the oven, let cool, and then serve.
VEGAN BUTTER VS COCONUT OIL
Vegan butter you ask? Vegan butter is simply dairy-free butter. It’s very easy to find and if you have an allergy/sensitivity to dairy already, I’m sure you have used vegan butter before. I find my dairy-free butter at Hy-vee, Supervalu, Cub foods…pretty much any big grocery store! I prefer using vegan butter for this Easy Gluten-free Pear Crisp as I like the taste of it and the crumble holds together a little better.
Coconut oil is always a great option! If you’re looking for a healthy “butter” option and also dairy-free, coconut oil is always a great option. Your dessert will have a little bit of a coconut taste and the crumble will “melt” into the pears a more, but the flavor and taste will still be amazing!
